Martha Bryne (Lily, As the World Turns)SOD is reporting that things are not all hunky dory insofar as contract negotiations between As the World Turns and it's long-time star, Martha Bryne (Lily).  An Oakdale mainstay since 1985 (except for a three-year absence from 1989-1993), Bryne is currently in heated talks. Allegedly, she is requesting that some perk be put into her contract, but it is something that the show is refusing to give her. It's not about money. It's also rumored that a call is going out to big-name former soap stars regarding their interest in taking over the role of Lily should Bryne and the show not come to terms. Stay tuned. The Bold & the Beautiful's Ronn Moss (Ridge) was so inspired after playing a benefit in the support of animals, that he and his family decided when it was time to expand their doggie family they opted to search the shelters. Applause to the Moss family for doing their part to help support the pet population. In more Moss Buzz, his fiancé put some of his items such as scarves and boxer shorts on eBay earlier in the winter. Mrs. Moss-to-be seems to have more eBay business in store for the future, so get your bidding fingers ready! Contributed by DR

Here's some fun facts about another Bold & the Beautiful star, Winsor Harmon (Thorne). He was born at the exact time President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Growing up, Harmon wanted to be a Baptist minister and a country music singer. How in the heck did he come to soap operas? No matter. We are glad he found his way to B&B and the small screen. Contributed by DR

Meantime, be sure to head over to the Bold & the Beautiful website, and check out the new blog section! B&B actors, as well as key behind-the-scenes staff, are now talking about the things you want to know about! Contributed by LMS

Trent Dawson (Henry, As the World Turns)As the World Turn's Trent Dawson (Henry) has been known to surf the soap chat rooms and message boards. If you come across a post by “td,”  “UncleHenry,” or “MrColeman” it's the quirky Trent Dawson who will post messages and comments under these user names. Dawson, a native Cajun (he hails from Baton Rouge, LA) celebrates Mardi Gras in a big way, especially this year as it fell the same week of his birthday. Dawson tried to get his fellow cast members excited about Mardi Gras by throwing beads all over the studio. Austin Peck (Brad, ATWT) got in on the action with Dawson, exposing what is traditionally shown by women to gain lots of beads. Those guys are just as funny off screen as they are on screen.  Contributed by DR

Over at Days of our Lives, Matt Cedeno (ex Brandon) has a new store. It seems that after life as the South West Region's spokesperson for El Pollo Loco, Cedeno is turning his endeavors to activewear. The store, called, Body Language, has it's grand opening soon in Los Angeles.  Soapdom's Arianne Zucker (Nicole, DOOL) will be on hand to cover the event for Soapdom! Contributed by LMS

Jess Walton (Jill, Y&R)In some Young and the Restless Buzz, Jess Walton (Jill) made her soap opera début on the sister soap opera, Capitol, until it was cancelled and replaced by Bold & the Beautiful. It was then she came to Y&R where she has portrayed Jill wonderfully since 1987. On Y&R, Jill’s mother and deceased son suffers from alcoholism but it is in Walton’s real life she has battled addiction to drugs and alcohol. Luckily, she realized she had a substance abuse problem early in her career and sought help. Contributed by DR

At As the World Turns, Marie Wilson (Meg) has an interesting heritage.  The portrayer of Oakdale’s hokie, yet hot, nurse turned CEO, hails from Canada. Yep, it’s true. She was born in Greece and raised in Canada. Nothing like the upbringing of her alter-ego. Contributed by DR

John Driscoll (Coop, Guiding Light)Over at Guiding Light, John Driscoll (Coop) alter ego isn’t the only one with a father that is former Army. Driscoll was born and raised at Fort Belvoir, VA an Army base just minutes outside of Washington DC. His favorite show is Iron Chef, yet he admits he has no cooking abilities at all. As long as he keeps acting his cute little butt off on GL, I guess we really don’t mind that he can’t cook.  Contributed by DR

Happy Valentine's Day.

Shirley Jones (Coleen Brady, Days of our Lives)Last week's episodes of "Days of our Lives" featured the conclusion of the mystery behind the Brady-DiMera feud. Once thought dead, "Colleen Brady," played by Academy Award-winning actress Shirley Jones, revealed the truth to the major characters of the Brady family in Ireland over the course of the week. Fans also learned that the heroic Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) has a serious illness. The dramatic storyline catapulted Days to its highest women 18-49 rating in the past year and matched its highest women 18-34 rating since August. For the week of February 4-8, "Days" (1.7 rating, 10 share among women 18-49, 1.3/8 among women 18-34) ranked #2 among all daytime network telecasts in the women 18-49 category and #1 in the women 18-34 demo. Kimberly McCullough (Robin, General Hospital)The Answer is “Yes!”  How would you get the attention of your boyfriend or girlfriend?  Propose marriage during their favorite show, of course.  Several couples took advantage of SOAPnet’s Valentine's Day programming special "Robin Unwrapped," a 3-episode marathon featuring the loves of Dr. Robin Scorpio (played Kimberly McCullough on "General Hospital").  Viewers were invited to submit their personal Valentine love letters, stories and proposals, to be read by McCullough during breaks in the airing of the marathon.  Over 1,000 letters were sent, including 17 marriage proposals and a high school prom invitation.  McCullough read every proposal on-air or online.  As a result, several couples got engaged on Sunday!  Way cool.  Contributed by LMS

Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara, As the World Turns)Colleen Zenk-Pinter (Barbara, As The World Turns) recently told Buzz that when she was diagnosed with oral cancer, she wanted to be open and honest to everyone about her diagnosis, and believed her co-workers should hear it from her rather than rumors.  “I called Chris Goutman (the Boss), and said, Chris I won’t be coming to work today. I have cancer!" Pinter said. “Then one evening, Mark (her husband), called close members of the cast like Eileen Fulton (Lisa), Liz Hubbard (Lucinda), Kathryn Hays (Kim), and Don Hastings (Bob) to tell them the situation. They needed to know it from us.” Buzz is happy to report that today Pinter is cancer free. Contributed by MEW

As promised, Days of our Lives contacted Soapdom this morning with more news in regard to the "internet rumors" declaring that Hogan Sheffer and a number of his writing staff have been let go from the soap.  Ya know what they told me?  That they had "no comment" at this time. Okay, so now we have gone from "internet rumor only" to "no comment."  As I said yesterday in this very column, the plot thickens. Contributed by LMS

February 5, 2008

Yesterday, a rumor surfaced saying that Hogan Sheffer and seven other writers on Days of our Lives were given their walking papers. Our sources at the Network stated it was only an internet rumor.  As more "rumors" surfaced today, Soapdom called the show who also maintained the "rumors only" stance, however did seem to waffle a bit this time.  We will keep on top of this breaking story and follow up with Days of our Lives tomorrow who promises to be a bit more forthcoming in the AM.  Hum, the plot thickens. The Game Plan DVD Box ArtIt was a rainy Saturday in sunny, Southern California, and I was looking for something fun to occupy the late afternoon. With the Superbowl approaching, and it being Saturday and not a regularly scheduled soap opera day, I cuddled up with Dwayne “The Rock" Johnson (hubba) as he scored a touchdown in his first comic leading man role in the family-friendly box office hit, The Game Plan . What a fun movie!  It had laughs, heart, tons of football -- for the football fan in all of us -- and the sweetest little cherib of an actress, Madison Pettis (Cory in the House), who won my heart as Johnson's --unbeknownst to him until she literally shows up on his doorstep -- long lost daughter!  Sound a little like a soap opera plot?  LOL You betcha. It was a well-crafted gem of a movie that also starred Gordan Clapp (NYPD Blue) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer). Speaking of plots, here's what its about:  High-living Boston Rebels quarterback Joe Kingman (Johnson) finds his world turned upside-down when seven-year-old Peyton Kelly (Pettis) shows up at his door and announces she is his child from a brief early marriage and needs a place to stay while her mother is away on business. For the next month, Joe is suddenly saddled with unfamiliar parental responsibilities like ballet class and homework, while also getting to know his daughter. As he tries to lead his team to a championship season, Joe navigates the rocky shoals between macho man and girly-girl cultures with hilarious and heartwarming results, building to an outcome he never saw coming. The DVD and Blu Ray comes with tons of bonus features. Soapdom's favorites include Drafting the Gameplan and Bloopers with sports caster, Marv Albert.  With a suggested retail price: DVD: $29.99 U.S., $37.99 Canada; Blu-ray Disc: $34.99 U.S., $44.99 Canada, The Game Plan is on sale now.  Soapdom gives The Game Plan two very enthusiastic bubbles up!  Contributed by LMS

In some Young and the Restless casting Buzz, rocker Pat Benatar and her husband and lead guitarist Neil "Spyder" Giraldo will perform "Every Time I Fall Back," a song that they wrote together, on the set of "The Young and the Restless."  These episodes will air on February 14 and 15.  Benatar will  appear in five scenes as herself. The scenes will be shot in Neil Winters' (Kristoff St. John) club, Indigo.  Neil surprises his girlfriend Karen Taylor (Nia Peeples) and introduces her to Pat and "Spyder."  Neil has arranged a kind of master class to help Karen overcome her stage fright.  Pat helps her come out of her shell so she can sing in front of a crowd. Karen (Nia Peeples) will be singing an original song created special for "Y&R" titled, "For All Time."  Contributed by LMS

Plus, actress Raya Meddine has been cast on Y&R as Sabrina, an art consultant whom Victoria befriended when she lived in Florence, Italy.  Her scenes will tape the week of February 4.  Contributed by LMS

Soapdom is extremely saddened to report that Shell Kepler, a long time actor on General Hospital, lost her battle with a renal disease and passed away.  "We are saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and colleague Shell Kepler who portrayed the role of Nurse Amy Vining on General Hospital (and on the spin-off Port Charles) for over two decades," stated the show spokesperson.  "She was one-of-a-kind and well loved by her fellow cast and crew members.  We will all miss her and send our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends."  Jill Farren Phelps, executive producer, General Hospital added:  "I was shocked to hear of the recent and untimely passing of Shell Kepler.  She was a wonderful person and my thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time."  Jackie Zeman (Bobbi, General Hospital) who co-starred with Kepler for many years had this to say in regard to her passing:  "In addition to her acting and designing talents, Shell loved to decorate her home.  It was beautiful and Shell.  She loved to cook and entertain.  No one ever left Shell's house hungry.  She also liked to custom make gifts for her family and friends.  She had a big generous loving heart and she was a special friend to me and my daughters Cassidy and Lacey.  We miss her presence in our lives and we treasure the memories of our good times together."  Kepler died of renal failure.   Soapdom sends our condolences, thoughts and prayers to Kepler's family. Don't believe every post you read on the net. There's a doozey going around today claiming that Hogan Sheffer, head writer of Days of our Lives, along with eight of his writing staff, were told last Friday not to return to Days after the writer's strike. According to our high-level sources at NBC Daytime, this couldn't be farther from the truth.  It's just an internet rumor. Contributed by CL & LMS

While in some As the World Turns Buzz, Scott Bryce -- the soon to be ex Craig -- has granted a very candid interview to TV Guide's Michael Logan regarding his upcoming exit.  Apparently, Bryce, who originated the role of Craig oh so many moons ago, and has played him on and off ever since, never saw eye-to-eye with ATWT executive producer, Chris Goutman. Excellent reading. Contributed by CL
