This Just In....

LOS ANGELES, CA -- OCTOBER 9, 2003  On the heels of reports that Heather Tom was let go from The Young and the Restless, rumors began to spread that she was seen talking to an east coast soap.  According to her spokesperson, this is NOT true.  She was in NY to participate in several events for MSNBC.  However, Tom has a number of prospects. We will know more next week.  Stay tuned!

LOS ANGELES, CA -- OCTOBER 1, 2003   Daytime Emmy Award winner, Heather Tom (Victoria) is definitely off the Young and the Restless, and it was the show’s doing.  In a phone conversation with Soapdom today, Tom’s personal spokesperson revealed that she was still under contract with the show, but was coming up to the end of a cycle.  (A cycle is usually a 13-week time frame, at the end of which, the show has the option to continue honoring an actor’s contract or cut them loose.)

Last Wednesday, September 24, 2003, Y&R chose to cut Tom loose.   She received a “drop letter” from Jack Smith and the show.   Her last contract tape date is Tuesday, October 7, 2003.  However, Tom has also received additional tape dates, as the character will continue on recurring basis through the holidays.

But by the first of the year, Tom’s spokesperson shared, the character of Victoria will be off the canvas for about a month, at which time, Victoria will be -- recast!

At first, the 13-year Emmy Award-winning Y&R veteran was stunned and upset about being asked to leave the show, but Tom is now optimistic, upbeat, and excited about the new opportunities that await her post Genoa City.

"I want to thank all of my fans in daytime for making these 13 years such a joy for me,” Tom said in a previously reported statement.  “They have been the reason I loved the character so much.  I also want to thank my Y&R family, especially, Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) and Eric Braden (Victor), for being so very supportive over the years.  I will miss them all very much. A big thank you must go to Bill Bell for creating such a rich, complex character that I loved sinking my teeth into…”  (See Related Features below).

As the Y&R spokesperson recently left the position, and as of this writing a new spokesperson has not been named, we are waiting to hear back from Y&R's publicity department for the show's comments.  Tom is unavailable for interviews this week, but we will stay on top of the story and report any further developments.
