As David Shaughnessy exits, what's next?

Former EP to Return But Not as EP

CBS has confirmed that David Shaughnessy, executive producer of The Young and the Restless, has left his position with the show. Beginning in January, former Y&R executive producer Edward Scott, pictured here with wife Melody Thomas Scott at the B&B/Y&R Emmy Luncheon in 1999, will return to the show - but not as executive producer.

Shaughnessy assumed the EP duties from Scott in December 2001 after Scott and CBS execs were unable to come to terms on a new contract. Shortly before his ouster, Scott had celebrated his 25th anniversary with The Young and the Restless. Scott, who is the husband of Melody Thomas Scott (Nicole Newman), will return to the show as supervising producer.

At the time of Scott's exit, William J. Bell, Sr. (Co-Creator, Senior Executive Producer and Executive Story Consultant for The Young and the Restless) noted, "Scott's contributions to Y&R will be sorely missed by the company. I am confident that under [Shaughnessy]'s leadership Y&R will continue to produce compelling and provocative daytime drama."

Scott will return to Y&R on January 5th, after the show's holiday break. A show spokesperson was unavailable to comment on who would handle executive producer responsibilities while a new EP is located, or why Scott is returning in a lesser capacity.

Behind the scenes Days of our Lives: Production Designer

As Production Designer on Days of our Lives, Dan Olexiewicz knows how to construct a set. Yes! He is the man behind the famous Horton Town Square, one of the most popular sets used on the show and probably the largest. I mean who would not want to shop there with those unique stores? Or the new TBD Bar where everyone gathers to talk about their trials and tribulations, or plot their next move.

In layman's terms, Olexiewicz controls the designing of the sets. "Yes! I do (Laughing). I do the color scheme, I determine what kind of furniture will be used, and I collaborate with the set decorator giving me a feel of what needs to be done," he said. "I usually begin with a plan that is turned into a floor plan, and we go from there."
