All My Children logoThis morning, the WGA (Writers Guild of America) announced the nominations for the 2012 Writers Guild Award.

Soapdom congratulates all the nominees.

In the Daytime Drama category, writing teams from the following soaps were nominated...

Jeff Beldner, Lorraine Broderick, Joanna Cohen, Lisa K. Connor, Chris Dunn, Lucky Gold, Kate Hall, Chip Hayes, David Kreizman, Dave Ryan, Donna Swajeski, Rebecca Taylor, Addie Walsh; ABC

General Hospital
Written by:
Meg Bennett, Nathan Fissell, David Goldschmid, Robert Guza, Jr., Karen Harris, Elizabeth Korte, Mary Sue Price, Michele Val Jean, Susan Wald, Tracey Thomson; ABC

The Young and the Restless
Written by:
Amanda L. Beall, Tom Casiello, Susan Dansby, Janice Ferri Esser, Jay Gibson, Scott Hamner, Marla Kanelos, Natalie Minardi Slater, Beth Milstein, Michael Montgomery, Anne Schoettle, Linda Schreiber, Sarah Smith, Sandra Weintraub, Chris Whitesell, Teresa Zimmerman; CBS

Missing from the nominations this year are The Bold and the Beautiful and One Life to Live.  But to fans of General Hospital and The Young and the Restless who are more than disappointed in the way their shows have been portrayed in the writing of late, take note.  Writing peers from The Writers Guild seem to think the writing of those soaps is pretty darn noteworthy.  Noteworthy enough to nominate them for the Writers Guild Award.

Please share your thoughts below.

Freddie Smith Puts Mark On Character

As an openly gay character, Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) of Days of our Lives loves the challenge of "capturing the character."

"I do! It's exciting to be able to play this role. This is a big hot topic (being gay) in today's society,"  Smith said. "By portraying this character, I feel like I am making an impact on society, and be able to shed light on something that many people have a fear of."

This week Smith along with Chandler Massey (Will) have shared their first on air kiss. "This role gives me the opportunity to share the variety of experiences of what it is like to be gay," Smith said. "It's like do I come out? Do I stay in? This is about showing two sides."
