SOAPnet enrolls in college. This fall, SOAPnet is launching SoapU, a platform to showcase student-created soaps and a contest where the winner will receive a budget of $20,000 to produce original content for SOAPNETIC among other prizes. SoapU is looking for new video from students with aspirations to become the next generation of producers, stars and directors.
“College students are ardent soap fans and have a history of creating soaps centered around college life. SoapU is a great opportunity to showcase the talent that is alive and flourishing on college campuses around the country while building deeper relationships with our student-viewers,” said Deborah Blackwell, General Manager SOAPnet.
This fall semester from today through December 31st students enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States can submit up to 10 minutes of new original content related to the soap genre to enter the contest. Interested participants should visit www.SoapU.com for details.
All submissions must be received by December 31st. SOAPnet will then select 10 semi-finalists whose work will appear in a showcase area within the SoapU micro-site on SOAPnet.com. Fans and visitors will then be able to watch and vote for their favorite soapy-project from January 15-26. The top five will become finalists.
These five finalists will be given a soap scenario from which they will need to create one five-minute soap episode or vignette and a 20-second promo. Each finalist will have a total of eight weeks to submit their final cut. During their eight weeks, finalists will be visited by SOAPnet crews to document the behind the scenes action.
The grand prize winner will be announced in April 2007. The grand prize will include a budget of $20,000 to produce original content for SOAPnet’s broadband programming and a trip to Los Angeles for an opportunity to attend a pitch meeting with SOAPnet and SOAPNETIC to present original programming and broadband content concepts.
