Burbank, CA (May 19, 2003) - In a major programming coup, SOAPnet, the freshmen cable network dedicated to all soap operas all the time, has acquired the popular NBC Daytime soap, "Another World" from series producers Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc.  Beginning Tuesday, July 1, fans of "Another World" can relive all the love stories, heartbreak and drama of this daytime classic.  SOAPnet's broadcast will begin with the episode that originally aired on NBC July 1, 1987 where the Cory and McKinnon families, as well as other Bay City friends are preparing for the wedding of M.J. and Adam.

"As the only network devoted to all soaps, we are proud to have one of NBC's most successful soaps," said Deborah Blackwell, General Manager, SOAPnet.  "Procter & Gamble Productions defined the daytime soap genre and 'Another World' is one of the classic shows of its time.  SOAPnet is the most appropriate outlet for viewers to recapture all of the drama and history of this show which was a favorite of daytime viewers everywhere."

“For 35 years, “Another World” entertained television audiences with timeless love stories and memorable characters,” said Mary Alice Dwyer-Dobbin, Executive-in-Charge of Production for Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc.  “Now SOAPnet has provided a new home for “Another World’s” loyal fans and will give new viewers a chance to meet and fall in love with the residents of Bay City. With P&G’s rich daytime history, we are thrilled that SOAPnet provides a place for daytime dramas to live on.”

"Another World" premiered on May 4, 1964, and ran for 35 years on NBC.  At the time of its cancellation in 1999, it was the network's longest running daytime drama.  Throughout the years, the show launched the careers of several Hollywood personalities, dramatized significant social issues, and has been awarded numerous accolades, including 22 Daytime Emmy Awards.

"Another World" has the distinction of being credited with a number of industry firsts, including the use of stunt casting celebrity talent (such as Liberace) in guest-starring roles; developing orchestral music for special sequences; and taping scenes on location to enhance storytelling.  It was also the first daytime drama to expand to a one-hour format in 1975.

Some of today's biggest stars got their start in the fictional town of Bay City, Illinois.  Anne Heche (who won a Daytime Emmy for her dual roles as Vicky Hudson and Marley Love in 1991), Morgan Freeman, Ray Liotta, Kyra Sedgwick, Faith Ford and Eric Roberts got their start on "Another World."  In addition, celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Kelsey Grammer and Ving Rhames appeared on the soap early in their careers.

SOAPnet, the new way to watch soaps, offers same day episodes of popular daytime dramas including "All My Children, "One Life To Live," "General Hospital," and "Port Charles" at night for convenient viewing.  In addition, the network provides inside access to stars and storylines with original programs including the Emmy-nominated one-hour talk show, "Soap Talk" and the entertainment magazine show "Soap Center."  Wrapped in a 24-hour environment, SOAPnet also offers primetime classics including "Dynasty," "Knots Landing," and "Falcon Crest" as well as the former series, "Ryan's Hope."

General Hospital’s Lisa LoCicero Gets Up Close and Personal with Her Michigan Fans

I don't head to downtown Detroit often, but this past Friday was an exception. Why would I brave the single digit temperature and the downtown traffic? Because General Hospital's Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) was in town for a fan event.

LoCicero returned to her home state of Michigan for a meet and greet at the North American International Auto Show at Detroit's Cobo Center.

The event was part of Detroit's local ABC station, WXYZ Channel 7's 'Family Day' at the Auto Show.

It was positively frigid in Detroit on Friday. LoCicero, a Michigan native, told me she
