As previously reported at Soapdom.com, daytime takes over primetime on Monday, March 21, 2011 when Rebecca Budig and Cameron Mathison (All My Children), Corbin Bernsen (Young and the Restless) and Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman) guest star on 'Castle.'
What's also fun about the 'Castle' soap-opera themed episode is that Nathan Fillion (Richard Castle), Susan Sullivan (Martha Rodgers), Seamus Dever (Kevin Ryan) and Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Captain Roy Montgomery) also have
soap opera backgrounds. Fillion got his start as Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live. Sullivan starred on Another World as Lenore and Falcon Crest as Maggie. Dever played the deviously mercurial role of Dr. Ian Devlin on General Hospital and Santiago-Hudson starred for a time on All My Children as Dr. Zeke McMillan.
In the soap-themed 'Castle' episode titled 'One Life to Lose,' a murder has been committed on the set of 'Temptation Lane,' a top-rated soap opera and one of New York's longest running soaps. It turns out that 'Temptation Lane's head writer, Sarah Cutler, has been killed with a fire axe, smack dab in the middle of a love scene between Lance Hastings (Corbin Bernsen) and Mandy Bronson (Rebecca Budig). Castle and Beckett are called in and quickly discover that the behind the scenes drama at 'Temptation Lane' is as scandalous as the fictitious storylines. It's not hard to deduce that just about everyone would kill to get ahead.
Not only that, Lance Hastings, the rugged, self-assured veteran on the soap, has a romantic history with Castle's mother, Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan), which could complicate the situation, especially if Lance is the killer. He most certainly could be a suspect.
Additionally, although they are love interests in 'Tempation Lane,' Lance Hastings and Mandy Bronson (Rebecca Budig), the diva lead actress on the soap opera, can barely stand the site of each other off camera.
But Detective Esposito, on the other hand, is quite taken with Mandy Bronson. This is not lost on her and there is some funny business with Budig's Bronson flirting unabashedly with the police officer, until his partner tells him, in essence, to keep his pants on because as we know, Bronson could also be the guilty party.
Cameron Mathison plays Vince Powers, a director on 'Temptation Lane,' and the husband of the victim. In murder cases, the husband is always a likely suspect. Could Powers be guilty?
Gloria Chambers (Jane Seymour) turns out to be the long, lost mother of the victim. She has a deep, dark secret that she's desperate to keep. Perhaps she murdered her daughter to keep the secret under wraps?
But that's all up to Castle and Beckett (Stana Katic) uncover. As Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan) tells Castle toward the end of the episode "It could be anybody. Betrayal is a way of life on a soap opera," Castle gets a brilliant idea which leads him and Beckett to the killer. So, whodunit? Tune in to 'Castle' on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10 PM eastern and Pacific on ABC to find out.
