Sex and the City prequel gets star for the CW's new The Carrie Diaries

AnnaSophia Robb as Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie DiariesSex an d the City became a major franchise for HBO. It ran from 1998 to 2004, spawned two feature films, and made mega stars of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon.  Based on the novel by Candice Bushnell, the series broke hearts when it came to an end.

Now Bushnell is at it again. She's written the Carrie Dairies, the prequel to Carrie Bradshaw's single life in Manhattan.  This early Carrie is still in high school and is fending off her younger sister, her school rival, and  navigating coming of age in Manhattan.

The CW has picked up the rights to the Carrie Daries and has cast it's leading lady, 18-year old AnnaSophia Robb.  Robb was most recently seen in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Johnny Depp.  She also starred in feature films Because of Winn-Dixie, Bridge to Terabithia and Jumper.  

Prime time soap opera veterans, Fake Empire's Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein (Gossip Girl, Hart of Dixie) will executive produce alongside Warner Bros. Television.
