Oprah WinfreyWhen All My Children and One Life to Live were cancelled by ABC back in 2011, masses of disappointed fans mounted campaigns to get the shows back on the air.

One of the targets of these campaigns was Oprah Winfrey, who was about to launch her OWN network (The Oprah Winfrey Network).

Oprah had long been a fan of soaps -- All My Children being cited as her favorite.

But she made a public announcement saying that she could not be the saviour of soaps.

In this video, she thanks fans for reaching out to her, admits her love and passion for the soaps, but claims that there are not enough people home during the day to watch them any more, and that ratings are less than lackluster and that if she could find a way to make money on airing them, believe you me, she would.  (It's only all about the almighty dollar, even for America's richest woman, it seems.)

She launched OWN which has struggled in the ratings since it's debut.  Does anyone even know what channel it's on?

Now, OWN and TOLN (The Online Network) have struck an exclusive deal to air All My Children and One Life to Live, calling it a "summer fling for soap fans." OWN will air the 40 currently produced shows during a 10-week special engagment.

Oh how times change!  Looks like Oprah is finding some cents to be made on the soaps now, eh?

Oprah's original lack of faith aside, we suppose this is good news for soap fans who have shied away from watching the shows online. Now you can see them on TV!

Hiere is the official statement from OWN.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is hosting a summer fling for soap fans as the network has acquired the first 40 episodes of The OnLine Network’s reprisal of the popular daytime dramas “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” for a special exclusive 10-week limited engagement.  Half-hour episodes of each show will air Monday through Thursday beginning Monday, July 15 with “All My Children” at 1 p.m. ET/PT and “One Life to Live” at 3 p.m. ET/PT only on OWN.

"These shows have proven to be very popular with a significant, loyal fan base, not to mention Oprah herself is a big fan,” said Erik Logan, president, OWN.  “Many of our viewers across numerous platforms have expressed their passion for the soaps so we are especially excited to air this limited engagement on OWN.”

“We are really excited to bring OWN viewers and our audience at large an opportunity to catch up on ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ on traditional television,” said Jeff Kwatinetz, CEO Prospect Park Networks.  “We look forward to our millions of fans enjoying the first 40 episodes of the shows."

50 Years of Days of our Lives ~ 50 Years of an iconic theme…

When Bobby Hart and his songwriting partner, Tommy Boyce, were commissioned to write the theme song for a brand new soap opera over 50 years ago, they had no idea whatsoever that it would still be running on air, five days a week, twice a day for 50 years.

"I am blessed," Hart revealed to Soapdom, being grateful for its longevity and Days' Executive Producer, Ken Corday, keeping the Boyce & Hart theme song airing all these years.

You may not recognize the name of the songwriting team of Boyce & Hart, but odds are, if you or your parents were around in the mid to late 1960s, you are more than familiar with their music.
