Ron Carlivati gets promoted!

Erika Slezak (Viki, One Life to Live)Ron Carlivati has been promoted to headwriter of "One Life to Live" effective immediately, it was announced today by Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney-ABC Television Group. He replaces former headwriter Dena Higley, with whom he worked as co-headwriter.

"For years Ron's talent has helped develop and deliver the kind of cutting edge, emotional storylines fans have come to expect from 'One Life to Live,'" said Frons. "His evolution from staff writer to co-writer over the last decade has increased his creative influence on the show. His passion for the characters and their fans makes him the perfect choice to lead the storytelling into the future."

Carlivati has been a staff writer at "One Life to Live" for the past 11 years and a self-professed fan of the show since long before that. He graduated from law school at George Washington University in Washington DC, and briefly worked as a corporate lawyer before deciding to head to New York in 1996 to pursue a career as a soap opera writer. Upon his arrival he was hired at "One Life to Live" as a writers' assistant. During his time at the show, he has served as breakdown writer and, most recently, co-head writer.

"Ron's commitment and contribution to 'One Life to Live's' writing staff makes him an excellent choice to take on head writing duties," says executive producer Frank Valentini. "He has a contemporary sensibility, a quick wit and, above all, a tremendous passion for the stories in Llanview."

The network made no mention as to what became of former head writer, Dena Higley or why they are making the switch so abruptly.

In case you didn't know, Emmy Award-winning "One Life to Live," created by Agnes Nixon, was launched July 15, 1968. Frank Valentini executive-produces. The popular drama consistently ranks among the top five in the key demographic of Women 18-49. The show is nominated for a 2007 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. "One Life to Live" airs MONDAY-FRIDAY (2:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

Soapdom congratulates Carlivati and awaits with eager anticipation to see how his take on the denizens of Llanview develops.

All My Children's Walt Willey opens up about being a stand up comic

All My Children may be off the air, but one of it’s most, charming, debonair, drop dead gorgeous, and hilariously funny stars, none other than Walt Willey (Jackson Montgomery), is out on the road again doing his stand up comedy act.  On Sunday, May 18, Willey hits the Detroit area, starring for one night at Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, MI.

Soapdom’s Laurie Bedigian caught up with Willey over the weekend via email and asked a few questions about his comedic roots, his love of acting, his comedy heroes and more.  Plus, he shares a bit about what the audience can expect on show night.  All I can say is the subject of sex may be involved.  Say what?  I’ll let Willey clear that one up for you.  LOL
