BURBANK - June 23, 2003 - Recording star/actress/dancer Mya ("Chicago") will appear as herself in the July 24 episode of NBC's daytime drama "Passions" (Mondays-Fridays, 2:00 p.m. ET).

Mya will sing her new single, "My Love Is Like...Wo," from her upcoming album, "Moodring" (Interscope/A&M).

Charles Divins (Chad) and Brook Kerr (Whitney) PassionsMya's appearance highlights the start of "Hot L.A. Passions," a new summer story arc.  The story centers around a visit to Los Angeles by six chore characters who ordinarily reside in the small New England town called Harmony.  In the "Passions" episode, music producer Chad (series regular Charles Divins) and Whitney (series regular Brook Kerr) enjoy a romantic evening at a Los Angeles beach club where Mya is performing.  She performs ""My Love Is Like...Wo," backed by her dance troop and the club audience erupts in wild applause.

Additional characters in the "Hot L.A. Passions" storyline include; Fox Crane (series regular Justin Hartley), Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald (series regular Lindsay Korman), Ethan Winthrop (series regular Eric Martsolf) and Gwen Winthrop (series regular Liza Huber).

Mya, who studied tap dance under the tutelage of Savion Glover ("Bring on Da Noise, Bring on Da Funk"), recently appeared in the Oscar-winning feature film "Chicago" in the role of Mona.  She also sang "Where the Dream Takes You" in the animated film "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," and she teamed with fellow singing stars Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim and Pink to sing the Grammy winning #1 smash hit "Lady Marmalade," one of the signature songs from the hit feature "Moulin Rouge."

Mya also appeared in the film "In Too Deep" and in the miniseries "The Blues."  In addition, she often serves as a presenter at many entertainment awards shows, such as "The American Music Awards" and "The MTV Video Music Awards."   Mya's full name is Mya Marie Harrison. She is 5'7" tall and is half Italian and half Jamican.  She graduated high school at age 16, and her first foray into the world of dance was with tap.

Based on the rich history and mystery of the harbor community of Harmony, "Passions" explores the lives, loves and losses of four core families: the Cranes, the Lopez-Fitzgeralds, the Bennetts and the Russells, each of whom have their own distinct and diverse personalities. It also features a 300-year-old witch, Tabitha Lenox (Juliet Mills).

"Passions" is a creation of celebrated daytime drama scribe, James E. Reilly, who is considered by many industry insiders to be one of the most innovative and prolific writers of the genre. Reilly has created some of the most talked-about storytelling in daytime drama, including characters who are buried alive, or possessed, as well as daytime's first-ever multiple character on NBC's "Days of Our Lives."

"Passions" is produced by NBC Studios in association Outpost Farms Productions, Inc. and is taped in Studio City, California. Lisa de Cazotte is the executive producer.
