John Ingle Takes Over as Mickey Horton!
In a surprise real-life shocker, John Ingle (ex Edward, GH), has been wooed over to Days of our Lives to assume the role of Mickey Horton. "We are taking the character forward," the Days spokesperson told Soapdom, "and we are delighted to have John Ingle in the role!"
Ingle has been the subject of some controversy of late, as his character, Edward Quartermaine on General Hospital pictured here, was first given walking papers, and then, the show renegged and invited Ingle to return to work. The way we heard it, Ingle got a phone call from Jill Farren-Phelps asking him to stay. General Hospital went to some lengths announcing that Ingle was staying on at GH. Guess not! When reached for comment, General Hospital has no official statement at this time.
John Clarke, who originated the role of Mickey Horton 38 years ago when the show first aired, recently announced his retirement citing health concerns. Richard Voigts temporarily assumed the role and will begin airing February 3. Ingle takes over as Mickey on February 18, 2004.
So, what does this mean for the character? One thing we can say for sure. This is a contract role for Ingle, meaning it's not likely that Mickey will fall victim to the Salem Stalker. Like sands through the hour glass, so goes the casting of our lives!
