Kassie dePaiva to Days of our LivesAfter years of being put on the back burner, with soap operas being cancelled left and right, Soapdom is delighted to report that things are on the upswing for the remaining soap operas.

CBS recently announced that it was renewing its entire daytime line up, including The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless for the 2014-2015 season.  Both soaps have seen increases in the ratiings, up 14 percent and 9 percent in total viewers, respectively.

General Hospital, which faced cancellation a few years ago, almost following in the footsteps of it's network siblings, All My Children and One Life to Live, is showing an 8 percent increase in overall viewers and is rumored to be continuing at least through the next season.

While over on NBC, Days of our Lives is having a major coup. First: Congratulations go out to the show. NBC has said it has extended the longest-running U.S. daytime drama for an additional two years through 2016. And in November 2015 the show will celebrate it’s Golden Anniversary of an impressive 50 years on TV. The extension as announced by Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment.

“We are thrilled to continue being a part of the NBC family and to have the support of our incredible network and studio executives who work tirelessly to allow us to continue telling our stories and share the ‘Days’ legacy with our devote family of fans,” said Ken Corday, executive producer “Days of our Lives.”

And on another note: The show just signed soap veteran and class-act, Kassie dePaiva (ex Blair Kramer, One Life to Live, General Hospital) to play the role of Eve Donovan, last played many years ago by Charlotte Ross. dePaiva, perhaps best  known from her work as Blair on One Life To Live, will be a fantastic addition to the Days of our Lives multi-talented cast. Wonder what she will stir up in Salem? Stay tuned.

Additionally, the two ABC soaps that were cancelled, All My Children and One Life to Live, and found a new life via Prospect Park on the internet, will be in the running for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards it was announced.  TV Guide's Michael Logan reported that NATAS Senior Director Daytime Emmy Awards, David Michaels, noted "Our entry deadline was last Friday, January 17th, and we've had a lot of great submissions from AMC and OLTL.  In fact, we've set an extreme record for the number of entries this year.  From the look of Prospect Park's submissions, I think they'll give the four network soaps a real run for their money when it comes to production values and the quality of the writing, directing and acting."

Michaels likewise stated that "several stars who chose not to submit themselves in recent years have decided to get back into the game.  So the more the merrier!  Between that, and the enthusiasm from All My Children and One Life to Live, this has the makings of real horse race."

The pre nonimations for the Daytime Emmy Awards will be announced March 1st.

Congratulations to all the shows. It appears that things in soapdom are definitely looking up!
