On Sunday, February 22, 2009 in Fontana, CA, NASCAR visits the Auto Club Speedway for a day at the races. Since Sprint Cup Series driver, Jeff Burton, is going to be "in town" anyway, for the race, he's been invited to guest star on ABC Daytime's General Hospital as himself. Because guess what? GH's Jason Thompson (Dr. Patrick Drake) is an avid NASCAR fan and he couldn't be more delighted than to welcome Burton to the set.
Thompson and Burton are taping their scenes as I type, with Burton's appearance set to air sometime mid-March. The 21-time race winner had this to say about his visit to the popular soap:
"I'm excited about going to the set of General Hospital and taking on a role with Jason," said Burton. "I've been in commercials and was a guest star on a sitcom a couple of years ago so I'm hoping those appearances prepped me for my soap opera debut. Luckily, I get to play myself and talk racing, which will help take some of the pressure off."
But that's not all. Thompson goes to Fontana on Sunday, visiting the Auto Club Speedway to shadow Burton at Auto Club 500. Then, Burton will take Thompson on a pace car ride before they both participate in question-and-answer and autograph sessions. Thompson will also sit atop the Cat Racing pit box for the race and attend the driver's meeting and driver introductions.
So, LA-based General Hospital fans, whether you're a fan of NASCAR, but you are a fan of Thompson's, get ye out to Fontana this Sunday!
