“General Hospital:  Night Shift” cast announced. Billy Dee Williams tapped to star along with most of GH's younger cast

Kimberly McCullough (Robin, General Hospital)As previously reported at Soapdom, SOAPnet is making a shift in its roster of original series programming.  Instead of the talk and reality show projects like SoapTalk, Soapography and I Wanna Be a Soap Star that the cabler has taken on to date, SOAPnet has now teamed with General Hospital to offer it’s first ever original scripted series prime time drama, General Hospital: Night Shift. The GH spin off begins production in Los Angeles on April 20, 2007 and is scheduled for a July premiere. It is SOAPnet’s first primetime drama original programming endeavor and has gotten a 13-episode pick up.

Today, SOAPnet announced  the all-star, ensemble cast of “General Hospital: Night Shift.” The series will go beyond what is seen in daytime to reveal the lives and loves of “General Hospital’s” favorite characters during the hospital’s night shift, but that’s not all.  Look for new faces and complications in Port Charles.

Feature film and television star, Billy Dee Williams is one of the new faces who will join the cast as Toussaint, a man with a haunted past.  Other cast  members include: Steve Burton (“Jason Morgan”), Kimberly McCullough (“Robin Scorpio”), Jason Thompson (“Patrick Drake”), Kirsten Storms (“Maxie Jones”), Julie Marie Berman (“Lulu Spencer”), Natalia Livingston (“Emily Quartermaine”), Rebecca Herbst (“Elizabeth Spencer”), Kent King (“Lainey Winters”), Jason Gerhardt (“Coop Barrett”), Josh Duhon (“Logan Hayes”), Lindze Letherman (“Georgie Jones”), Kiko Ellsworth (“Stan Johnson”), Sonya Eddy (“Epiphany Johnson”), Minae Noji (“Kelly Lee”), Bradford Anderson (“Damian Spinelli”), Adrian Alvarado (“Cruz Rodriquez”), Derk Cheetwood (“Max Giambetti”), Richard Gant (“Russell Ford”) and Wendy Braun (“Ms. Sneed”).

“General Hospital: Night Shift” begins production on Friday, April 20th and will premiere in July.  Robert Guza Jr., head writer for “General Hospital” and Jill Farren Phelps, executive producer, “General Hospital” will likewise write and executive produce “General Hospital: Night Shift.”

It’s pretty clear from the cast announcement, the spin off will feature more of the younger cast of daytime’s General Hospital.  Will General Hospital: Night Shift go the way of Port Charles, GH’s first, if not ill-fated, spin off?  Stay tuned.
