King pulls the plug on Alcazar

Ted King (Alcazar, General Hospital)In a rather shocking development, the soap opera General Hospital is down one mobster.  Ted King (Alcazar) is packing his bags and heading out of Port Charles.  While he notes that some might be surprised by his sudden departure, it's really not that sudden and any keen-eyed dedicated viewer couldn't help but notice how the Alcazar storyline is not what it once was. King is the first one to admit it's time to spread his wings and take on some new challenges.

He made the announcement to his fans on his official website.

"I have spent four and a half glorious years of my life on the show and it's been time well spent," he says. "I have grown as an actor, as a person, and have built a tremendous support network of interesting, intelligent fans. I am writing this letter to say thank you for your generous thoughts and affirmations, and to inform you of my decision. I am leaving the show simply because it's time. I need to stretch as an actor. I need to take on a new role.

"I have spoken to numerous executives at ABC and they have expressed their love for the work I have performed, and for who I am as an individual," he continues. "They understand that I need to spread my wings as an actor and find new challenges. Many discussions have been had, and no one blames me for leaving the show. Over a good stretch of time, scenarios have been discussed that could keep me from leaving, or moving to other ABC shows, but at this time I am not interested in Lorenzo Alcazar going anywhere else.

"I think Lorenzo is a beautifully complex man with numerous flaws whose heart contains a romantic soul," King adds. "I have loved playing this man over the years, but feel at this time that the role has become simply villainous. I am ready for a fresh opportunity, and long for a project that continues to challenge me the way playing a South American arms dealer who was a former professor of history at Oxford University once did."

According to TVGuide, the show spokesperson confirms King's departure saying that the cast and crew wish him the best in all of his future professional and personal endeavors.  No final airdate has been announced, although King's last days on General Hospital will be storyline dictated.  It is not known at this time if the role will be recast.

Soapdom wishes King all the best and will be sure to tune in when he lands his next role.  To see King's entire letter to his fans, visit TedKing.com
