Sarah Brown leaves GH for B&BAnd so the dial turns...but in a great way!

Soapdom can confirm that three-time Emmy® Award winning actress Sarah Brown (Claudia, General Hospital) has been cast in the role of "Sandy Sommers" on The Bold and the Beautiful. B&B Executive Producer and Head Writer Bradley P. Bell made the announcement on

September 30th, just about a week or so after Brown shared on her Twitter page that the role of Claudia on General Hospital had run its course and she would be leaving GH.

"Sarah's powerful screen presence and vast range as an actress has intrigued me for years," said Bell. "I look forward to challenging her with this new role that will be unlike anything she's done before."

Bell went on to say that Brown's storyline "will create a fresh and formidable platform for The Bold and the Beautiful."

Brown's portrayal of "Sandy Sommers" will kick off a story-arc surrounding "Bridget" (played by Ashley Jones), "Nick" (played by Jack Wagner) and "Whip" (played by Rick Hearst) that will touch on a very specific woman's issue and emotionally touch the hearts of the B&B audience.

Additionally, it is being reported that Brown's contract with ABC was not up until Jan 4, when the role of Claudia would have ended anyway. In a rare and magnanimous gesture, ABC was looking out for the actress and not for their competitive edge when they agreed to let the single mom of an eleven year old out of the contract a few months early to take on the role of Sandy at B&B.

According to the Washington Examiner, Bell said "I was stunned. It was something really very human and very big of them. They were putting the needs of the actress, who is a mother, ahead of the network's."

Brown said she has the deepest regard for ABC and its generosity. Her exit from "General Hospital" will make a splash, she promised. "I'm thrilled with the way they're doing it. It pays off for the audience and in a good way for all of us."

The Washington Examiner also reports that Brown signed a 2-year contract with B&B, so she's gonna be around a while.

As you can imagine, Soapdom was inundated with email yesterday as flashes of this story broke on the internet. We immediately reached our sources at the Bold and the Beautiful who relplied: "Yes, we hired Sarah Brown. It was an AP story that broke wide yesterday."

For those B&B fans who may know nothing about Brown here's some info:

Having attended the prestigious Los Angeles High School for the Performing Arts, she began her profession in acting while attending college, when she was chosen as the series lead on the popular children's series, VR Troopers, which aired worldwide, making her a household name with children everywhere. Two short years later, Brown auditioned for a lead role on General Hospital and got the part of "Carly Benson." For five years, her portrayal of the character made Brown one of daytime television's most memorable actresses and a fan favorite. She was also nominated four times for a Daytime Emmy® Award for this role, taking home the coveted statue three times, in 1997, 1998 and 2000.

In April 2001, Brown made the decision to pursue challenges beyond daytime television and started to appear in many hit television series including The Closer, K-Ville and Monk and had recurring roles on Cold Case and Without a Trace. Other appearances include the hit movie sequel Big Momma's House 2, the movie-of-the week The Perfect Husband, and the long-running daytime drama, CBS's As The World Turns. In 2008, Brown returned to General Hospital in a new role as "Claudia Zacchara."

Soapdom congratulates Brown on landing this role with B&B and can't wait to see her take on the challenge head on -- as she always does. Bold and Beautiful fans hang on to your remotes. Once Sandy Sommers hits the fashion world, anything's possible.

Brown starts taping on the set of B&B today, October 1st. Her first airdate is scheduled for November 5, 2009. Stay tuned.
