EMMY 2008 ~ Daytime Emmy Voting Goes Online

Daytime Emmy LogoThe Daytime Emmys are going high-tech.  Beginning this year, entrants and judges will conduct all their Emmy-related business right online at www.daytimeemmys.tv.  Members may now submit entry applications, read and/or download all the rules, and vote from anywhere at any time, and that's just the beginning.

"This new portal for the Daytime Entertainment community brings us into the 21st century with a state-of-the-art entry tool that provides accuracy, immediate feedback and an opportunity for constant communication," noted Brent Stanton, executive director of the Daytime Emmy Award program. "Not only can you create your profile, review your entry status, upload judging credentials, download PDF files of important documents and ask questions, the new system will allow judges to effortlessly be assigned to panels where they can review entries and vote electronically from the comfort of their home or the nearest Starbucks."

It appears that NATAS (National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences) has been working toward a completely paperless system for several years now, and the Daytime Emmy site is the first of many.  Additionally, NATAS is also developing an online viewing theater, where judges can watch entries on the Internet at their convenience. That's down the road a piece, however, as now, all NATAS members don't have access to technology that would let them watch DVD-quality episodes and clips, a necessity to judge many of the more technical categories, such as lighting, makeup and sound editing.  Rounding out the internet experience, NATAS is also interested in going Web 2.0, adding social-networking features such as member profiles, in order to bring diverse TV communities together.

The deadline to enter this year's Daytime Emmys is Jan. 7. Will your favorites get their tapes submitted in time? 

Save the date:  The 35th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC once again from the Hollywood and Highland Entertainment Complex at Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on June 20, 2008.
