Putting his talents -- and yours -- to the test

Matthew Ashford (Jack, DOOL)Calling all actors and wannabe actors. Are you an actor, or ever dream of becoming an actor?’s your chance to brush up on your skills, or dive into the exciting world of acting for the first time, and learn the craft from a pro.

Matthew Ashford (Jack Deveraux) of Days of our Lives is literally taking his act on the road -- or that is -- at least his acting class.

The veteran soap opera actor will be in several select cities (see info below) with “An Intensive Acting Workshop,” a one day class that explores and teaches the ups and downs of the acting profession.

“When the opportunity presented itself to teach acting, I thought what a great idea!” Ashford explained. I went to the North Carolina School of Arts. I was trained in the theatre. And as an actor, the hardest part is having the character you play dry up. You need to sometimes be your own director and be creative, and that’s what I want the students to learn from my knowledge as an actor.”

Ashford added that as a performer you need to be pro-active, focus, and not loose confidence. “The Intensive Acting Workshop is a class for people with experience and without,” Ashford explained.  “And where you want to go with your acting career.”

The class received a letter of recommendation from Leni Dyer, Theatre Coordinator Department of Communication, Theatre, and Dance at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., where Ashford has twice taught the class.

“Matt is just phenomenal. He’s so personal, and he cares so much about the students,” Dyer told Soapdom. “He’s a trained actor that cares about the craft. He also takes acting beyond the realm of soap operas.”

The Intensive Acting Workshop covers cold readings from Days of our Lives scripts, scene break downs, developing your instrument and auditions and feedback with comments, suggestions, and a critic from Matt Ashford himself.

“Oh yea! I’m hands on,” Ashford chuckled.
