Nathan Fillion (Castle (c)Soapdom/LMS)Production begins next week in Los Angeles on a soap-opera-themed episode of Castle. Soap stars, Corbin Bernsen (The Young and the Restless), Cameron Mathison (All My Children), Rebecca Budig (All My Children), and Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman) head to Castle-land for a very fun episode set to air in March. (Airdate TBD).

The inside joke is that Castle star, Nathan Fillion, got his start as Joey Buchanan (1994-1997 and again for two episodes in 2007), a character on the ABC soap, One Life to Live. Fitting then, that the name of the Castle soap-themed episode is One Life to Lose. Castle becomes involved when his mom (Susan Sullivan) gets a role on the soap opera, Temptation Lane, one of New York's longest running soaps, only to become embroiled in the murder of the show's head writer.

According to ABC, "Castle and Beckett (Stana Katic) quickly discover that the behind the scenes drama at Temptation Lane is just as scandalous as the fictitious storylines, and just about everyone would kill to get ahead. Ultimately, Castle's unique skill set as a writer leads to a discovery about the killer and the secret he or she would do anything to protect."

Here's how the storyline is set to shape up...

Lance Buchanan (Bernsen) is a rugged, self-assured, veteran actor on "Temptation Lane." But get this. He has a romantic history with Castle's mother, Martha Rodgers (Sullivan). Could he be the killer? Meanwhile, Mandy Bronson (Budig) is the young and gorgeous diva lead actress on the soap opera who is very aware of her sexuality and uses it to her advantage any chance she gets. Will Castle fall prey to her feminine wiles?

Then, Vince Bowers (Mathison) is the devastated husband of the victim. He is also director on "Temptation Lane" and is very involved in the backstage drama. Finally, Gloria Chambers (Seymour), the grieving mother of the murder victim, is revealed in a shocking twist to have a deep, dark secret that she's desperate to keep. The question is will there be any evil twins, amnesia, or whose the daddy storylines?

But wait -- there's more.  Castle is an ABC Studios production.  One Life to Live airs on ABC.  The character Fillion played on One Life to Live was Joey Buchanan. The Buchanan family remains a powerful clan in Llanview.  The character of Joey has just been re-cast with actor Tom Degnan and is back on the canvas. All we can say is that it is very coincidential that Corbin Bernsen's character  in the One Life to Lose episode of Castle bears the Buchanan moniker.  Could this be ABC's way of introducing a new character to One Life to Live?

One thing is certain. Castle will have to muster up all his deductive reasoning expertise to find out whose the murderer in the One Life to Lose episode.

Starring in Castle are Nathan Fillion as Richard Castle, Stana Katic as NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, Ruben Santiago-Hudson as NYPD Captain Roy Montgomery, Tamala Jones as Medical Examiner Lanie Parish, Jon Huertas as NYPD Detective Javier Esposito, Seamus Dever as NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan, Susan Sullivan as Martha Rodgers, and Molly Quinn as Alexis Castle.

Castle is produced by ABC Studios. Andrew Marlowe serves as executive producer/writer, along with executive producers Rob Bowman, Laurie Zaks, David Amann, and Armyan Bernstein.

Castle airs Mondays (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.
