Genie Francis (as Laura, GH)What is now General Hospital's loss has become the Young and the Restless' gain.

Genie Francis, one half of the iconic soap opera couple, General Hospital's Luke & Laura, is on her way to Genoa City to take on the role of Cane Ashby's mother. Francis was last seen on General Hospital when she returned in 2006 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Luke and Laura's wedding thanks to a miracle drug that awoke Laura from her catatonic state for a short time.  She was nominated, and won, a Daytime Emmy Award for that brief, month-long apperance.

This breaking news comes on the heels of Young and the Restless fans mounting a campaign to get Daniel Goddard, who plays Cane Ashby, back on their favorite soap after he was killed off last February. They went so far as to hire a plane with a banner that said "Y&R Fans Want Daniel Goddard as Cane Ashby," to fly over CBS Televison City in Los Angeles where the Young and the Restless is taped.

Y&R assures Soapdom that Goddard will indeed be back, as he is a contract player. And to boot, Daytime Emmy winner, Genie Francis, debuts on the country's No.1 soap as Cane's mother.

Watch for Francis to begin airing in late May. Will Goddard return as Cane before or after Francis appears? Stay tuned to the Young and the Restless to find out.

Days of our Lives' Brendan Michael Coughlin enjoys playing Tad and being a new dad

When asked what it is like to play Tad on Days of our Lives, Brendan Michael Coughlin shouts exuberantly, "I love him!"

Coughlin has been playing the so-called behind the scenes instigator for the last two years. He has no family that is ever mentioned on the show, but he is there. He came on as Will's (Guy Wilson) best friend, but when it became clear that Will was gay, Tad did everything but bash and degrade and mock him. The irony? At the recent wedding of Will and Sonny (Freddie Smith), he was best man. Go figure!

"I know. It has been a wild ride. I did a whole turn around, and I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed doing the wedding. I really enjoy playing this guy. He is a total goof-off. He means well, but is always on the wrong side of the rope." Coughlin said. "I have grown to love him. He is comic relief. I always had dramatic roles, so this is fun."
