Creators of the increasingly popular Super
Soap Weekend where fans from all over the country flock to Disney/MGM
Studios in Orlando, Florida in droves to meet and greet their favorite
ABC soap stars, ABC Daytime launched Fan February five years ago to
broaden the outreach to its loyal fan base even more. The first Fan
February allowed fans to write in a "wish list" of scenes they wanted
to see air on their favorite shows. The network then took an amalgam of
all the suggestions and actually produced stand alone episodes
reflecting the fans' wishes. Subsequent Fan February promotions gave
lucky fans the opportunity to appear in a scene on air with their
favorite stars on their favorite ABC soap.
But hold on
to your keyboards, my cyberfriends. Fan February 2007 kicks
things up a few notches. Three loyal fans will win a chance to
switch jobs with an actor on "All My Children," "One Life to Live" or
"General Hospital!" Yup. So if Susan Lucci's Erica Kane is
your favorite character, and you're the AMC winner, you'll get to host
a TV Talk Show called New Beginnings and Lucci will take over your
duties at your job for a day! I mean, come on. How cool is
that?
Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC
Television Group made the announcement today that three fans will have
the opportunity to switch jobs with an actor from one of their favorite
shows -- "All My Children, "One Life to Live" or "General Hospital" -
in ABC's fifth annual Fan February contest.
"Fan February has
become a tradition that our viewers eagerly await," he said. "This year
ABC Daytime will give winners the ultimate fan experience - a job
switch."
Contest winners will have a chance to put themselves
in the actors' shoes with an all-access pass to being a star on their
favorite show. This includes a dressing room, wardrobe fittings,
running lines with other actors and so much more. After the winner
spends the day at the show, the actor will fly in to work at the fan's
job.
Fans can enter the contest by submitting a photo and a
75-word essay explaining why they are the biggest fan of their favorite
ABC Daytime show and why their job would make the perfect switch. The
essays will be reviewed by ABC Daytime executives, and one loyal fan
will be selected for each show. (The behind-the-scenes experience will
air in promos, hosted by Bob Guiney, February 12 so viewers at home can
also get an inside look at what it's like to be an actor.) Oh no. Not
Bob Guiney again. What is it with ABC and Bob Guiney? We at
Soapdom don't get it, but hey, what do we know?
