Soap Opera or Reality? Reality TV Couples Who Are Still Together

Lemar Odom & Khole Kardashian (c)Kathy HutchinsHow many reality fans are out there in soapdom?  Do you have your favorite reality couples? As I am sure you know, reality shows give birth to a fair amount of public romances, and a lot of public breakups. It's just like soap operas, but in real time! In reality (pun intended), fact is truer than fiction and some of these reality couples engage in more outlandish activities than the most contrived storylines on our favorite soaps.

As in real "everyday life," couples have their ups and downs.  What's coming up roses one day, is cause to walk the plank on another. But when your personal life is played out on the airwaves for the world to see, it adds a new and distracting dimension to to being able to keep one's personal life personal.

It's much easier on soap operas.  The characters are figments of someone's imagation.  Although it feels like they are our real friends and family, as they come into our homes on such a regular basis, they are in fact, players in a story.  This week on All My Children, for example, Colby Chandler seduced the very buff Petey Cortlandt, in such a hot, steamy scene, it was removed from YouTube (after beling uploaded by the PR firm for Prospect Park) for being too racy!  While in fact, what made this scene hot and steamy was what was left to our imagination, rather than what aired on screen.  Guess the folks over at YouTube have very dirty minds!

In the realm of reality programming, we meet some interesting personalities, but they are real people, even as they flash across our screens weekly and we get to know them, and their antics, or so we think.

We come to root for our favorites, and want them to remain together against all odds.  Yet, almost every other day we hear of a reality star couple's ugly breakup.

But there a few couples who are still going full speed ahead.  While most lovers who met on reality TV programming have struggled to maintain their relationships, there are a few who made it through the pressures of the spotlight and stayed together.

Pictured above are Khloe Kardashan and Omar Odom. They've had some ups and downs, but are hanging on.  We did just hear that Khloe's sister Kim may have been wronged, but as we've not got any confirmation on that as of this writing, we'll hope for the best for her.

Another couple, Jason and Molly Mesnick from the 13th season of The Bachelor, experienced a boatload of public pressure and criticism. This outrage came from the unexpected decision Jason made to end his relationship with the season's winner, Melissa Rycroft, to be with runner-up Molly.

Jason and Molly Mesnick are a rare example of the very few couples from The Bachelor still together. The show's sister show, The Bachelorette, seems to have a bit more success in this department, however. The first season of The Bachelorette brought Trista and Ryan Sutter together and they are now married with children. And the Season 6 Bachelorette couple, Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez, are entering their one-year engagement, with plans to tie the knot this summer. The following season united JP Rosenbaum with Bachelorette Ashley Herbert and the couple recently married.

The castmates from The Bachelor/ette aren't the only folks finding love on screen. On www.listnerd.com you can find lists on some great content sites of the couples that formed as a result of meeting on The Real World set. Wisconsin congressman Sean Duffy met his wife, Rachel, while they were both on The Real World: San Francisco. They are now married with six children. Another Real World couple, Dustin Zito and Heather Marter, went through a few rocky splits before finally getting back together when they left the program. They are now reentering the reality TV world by planning to appear on season 3 of VH1's, Couples Therapy.
