The equestrian thespian from El Salvador shares all!

Life imitating art can be said for soap newcomer Adrian Bellani, who portrays Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions.

“It really is,” said Bellani. “I’m very similar to Miguel, and for me to play him, well lets just say I love it!”

Bellani joined Passions in February 2006 playing the popular character of Miguel.  The role was originated in 1999 by Jesse Metcalfe, who now stars as the as the sexy teenage gardener John Rowland on “Desperate Housewives.”

Soapdom wants to know, was there a bit of pressure taking over from Metcalfe, and do you hope for the same success that he has achieved?

“I’m not really feeling any pressure,” shared Bellani.  “I’ve never seen Jesse’s work. I’m not the same Miguel, and I want to bring my own charisma to the role. As for the success? Yes! I want more, more, more,” Bellani bellowed.

Bellani admitted that before joining Passions, he never really watched the show, but did skim through it, giving him a bit of knowledge of what was going on. He admitted, however, that he is faced with a lot of anxiety doing the job.

I’m getting used to it. I have anxiety the night before as I begin to prepare my lines,” Bellani revealed. “You have to remember that English is my second language (he is of Italian and Salvadoran decent), and I want every word to be exact.”

Bellani was born in Florida, but spent his youth in El Salvador. His parents reside there, and he said that they are now the biggest Passions fans watching the show daily on cable.

“Oh God yes! You know...it’s funny. At first my parents were iffy about me having an acting career,” Bellani said. “But now... they just brag. Go figure?”

Bellani loves the character of Miguel, but said that he’d like to see Miguel get a paying job. “I’m not a fan of the fish canary. I want those suits like Fox (Mark Wystrach),“ he yelled.

Bellani graduated Southern Methodist University with a degree in Finance. He started in the business as a model doing a lot of print work.

He then decided to head to Los Angeles, where he led a typical actors’ life consisting of acting classes and going on auditions. He landed a worldwide Pepsi commercial starring Christina Aguilera, where Aguilera was singing and dancing to him.

“Oh boy!  But in honesty that’s as far as it went,” he jokes. “She was wonderful, and beautiful. You know...God I hope she remembers me.”

Bellani said that at first when he arrived in Los Angeles he thought he’d get an agent and become a top model, not an actor, but he was shot down by every agent. Everyone kept telling...

...him that acting is the route to go if he was looking for any kind of success.

He landed the role on Passions after his agent received a profile of Miguel, and he was sent out to the audition.

“I must admit, I was pretty confident. I knew I fitted the profile. I knew my reading went well,” Bellani said. “I also was shocked at how fast I was given the screen test. This whole process for me worked very fast.”

Bellani can’t be more supportive of his Passions family. He said that ever since his screen test the cast has been so welcoming, and have helped him in overcoming his nervousness.

Having a lot of goals in the industry, Bellain just wants to continue working the rest of his life exploring every aspect that the business has to offer. He wants to take it “day by day,” and wants to be drawn to different projects that would make him happy.

“One thing about this business is that it’s never boring,” Bellani said. “There’s so much out there, and it will be fun to see where all this goes.”

Bellani hinted that he plans on using his Finance degree to start investing his money and plan on the future. He feels his background will help him in achieving that goal in making wise decisions.

Away from the set, he is an admitted “homebody.” He said that everyone thinks he is a party boy, when the fact is that he’s home just studying his lines for the next show.

In his free time he loves volleyball and working out faithfully which he describes “as a way of life.” He has participated in equestrian competitions of which he credits him mom.

“My mother’s family in El Salvador had a ranch with an equestrian club, so it’s just natural,” Bellani said. “I’ve probably been involved in this since I was a kid, since I’ve been so surrounded with this.”

Bellani is single, and said that for now the only special people in his life are his mom, dad, brother, and sister.

When asked what the fans should know about him, or would be surprised to know, Bellani replied:  “I guess it’s that I’m an easy going person. I have a big heart, and I’d really love to meet everyone of them.”
