GL Star Knocks us Out with Her Vocal Talents
Guiding Light's Liz Keifer (Blake Marler) has taken to the stage in the musical The Pirates of Penzance from June 3 until June 26, 2005 at the Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison, New York.
Keifer plays the character of Mabel opposite costar Chris Whipple as Frederic. The play is directed by Joel Goss, who is also the Pirate King (pictured above in purple tights ) and the music director is Tom McCoy.
The story of The Pirates of Penzance centers on the dilemma of young Frederic who as a child, was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates until his twenty-first birthday. Since he was born in leap year on February 29, Frederic finds himself honor bound to remain a pirate until the distant date of 1940 (despite his moral objections, and the love he feels for his newfound Mabel).
These photos were taken thanks to Keifer and the cast as they warmed up and at the curtain call.
The show was very well done and enjoyed by all. It was also a family affair. Keifer let me know that her husband made the boat (Keifer is sitting on the boat at right) that was used in the production.
The audience had fun and you could see that the cast members were having fun, too. I was surprised by Keifer’s vocal talent. She has a great voice which I never realized before. Likewise, the rest of the cast also wowed the audience with their vocal renditions. I just have one recommendation. Come see the show.
Pirates of Penzance runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm at the Philipstown Depot Theatre in Garrison, NY. For info or tickets call 845-424-3900.
