Blake Berris (Nick, Days of our Lives (c) NBCBlake Berris of Days of our Lives in a movie? You bet. The talented actor not only lights up the screen on Days as the twisted character of Nick Fallon that he so eloquently plays, but now he co-stars in "Meth Head" an independent feature film that was just screened in Washington, DC.  -- to rave reviews.

"Yes! I just came back from the screening. I'm still in Washington and I was thrilled to read the reviews in the papers," Berris said. "This film is something I really wanted to do."

Berris plays Dustin, a character who befriends Kyle, the lead character, played by Lukas Hass ("Lincoln", "Inception", " Brick"), and let's just say he leads him down the pathway of life to hell.

The movie also stars Tom Sizemore (Hawaii Five-O), Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls) and Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy).

"Meth Head" is the first feature film to offer an honest and compelling portrayal of methamphetamine addiction.

Berris got an email from his manager telling him about the part, however he first said...let's talk. " Oh Yea! He was like let's talk before you go and read. This film is controversial. There is drugs, violence, nudity, and I was like cool! I want to do this," Berris laughs.

He did a lot of research for the part, which included watching documentaries, and walking the streets of LA and talking to Meth users and observing their lives.

"I talked to people that were high. I wanted to learn where they're coming from," Berris explained. "It's a killer drug. This was an eye-opening experience to play this part."

Meth Head is inspired by the real-life experiences of Jane Clark and producer/actor John McLaughlin. John plays a character in the film. "I have to tell you...not only is John a friend, but what a joy to work with such a talent," Berris said.

Berris added that people need to know about this drug. It gets you high for now, but then you get high less and less. Meth is an "ugly drug, but the good news is that people effected by the drug can get help and there is treatment available," he said.

Abuse of methamphetamine, a potent and highly addictive psycho stimulant, can lead to devastating medical, psychological, and social consequences and continues to be a very serious problem in the United States, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

"For this role and of course you know me...I give everything my all," Berris said. "I was like maybe I should try this to see what will happen, but then it was like f---!"

Meth Head is actually based on a true story, and Berris said that Meth is popular in society and people really need to see this drug rear its ugly side.

Berris said that it took two and a half weeks to film (his work in) the movie, which was shot on location in Los Angeles, and the film will be shopped at various film festivals, including upcoming in Florida and Brazil.

"I feel so proud of the accomplishment of this film. It was well written, produced, and directed, and if I may say...very good acting," Berris said. "I hope in the future to do more independent films."

He added that doing these films is a goal. He is currently developing a script and said, "I just have a love for that."

Berris tells Soapdom that by doing Days of our Lives it has helped him in different ways to adapt to various roles. "It has. I love it. And by doing other projects like Meth Head it is so different and I really like the variance between the two."
