It was a major shock in soapdom when after 72 years on the air CBS announced earlier this year that they were going to cancel Guiding Light. Lack of ratings was the reason, although they made the difficult decision with much regret.
All of soapdom began to mourn the loss of the soap that would be airing through mid September 2009. Several weeks ago, CBS started to pay homage to the airwaves' longest running program ever, by dedicating avideo sequence to the show's final days. Titled "Road to the Finale," CBS has been chronicling major events in the countdown to the end.
Each video clip is a minute or two in length. In the most recent, Kim Zimmer (Reva) and Robert Newman (Josh) reflect on their years on the show. Zimmer states that the thing she'll miss most are "the men!," and that she feels very bad for the fans, who followed the denizens of Springfield for an hour each day, and now they won't have that. Neither Zimmer or Newman would reveal if the two will reunite by the show's final episode, but we sure hope they do.
Other clips include the Return of Jonathan (Tom Pelphrey); the photo shoot for the final cast photo; Daniel and Lawrence hit Peapack; it's been a long day; backstage with Daniel and Lawrence, a (wedding) day to remember; a Springfield miracle; and, daddy-daughter day.
Guiding Light fans, be sure to book mark the page and return often as Guiding Light winds down.
