Amid die-hard fans protesting the ABC network for cancelling two soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live, at the ABC Upfront presentation in NYC yesterday, ABC's one remaining soap has just landed a new head writer, Garin Wolf.

It was Brian Frons, president, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group who

made the announcement today.

"Garin is a talented writer and storyteller who has been a part of the 'General Hospital' family for nearly 15 years. His in-depth knowledge and adoration for the show's legacy will help make a smooth transition and an immediate impact on story," said Frons. "I'm sure he will succeed in taking 'General Hospital' to new heights as he develops characters and storylines that will engage and thrill our viewers."

With the way Frons has been cancelling soaps on the network, is making Wolf head writer a way to bring something more to General Hospital? Is Wolf taking on a huge responsibility here? If Wolf fails, is the soap also doomed?

Wolf has been with the show since 1997 and is the recipient of two Daytime Emmys®. Over the years,he has held the roles of associate head writer, breakdown writer and script writer. He has also written for SOAPnet's prime-time spin-off series "General Hospital: Night Shift" and daytime drama "As the World Turns" as well as animated series "Batman" and "Tiny Toon Adventures." In addition, Wolf has won a Writer's Guild Award for his work on "General Hospital."

Will he be able to bring anything new now, after all this time? Stay tuned. Wolf takes on the role of head writer effective immediately.

Past Blast

Chicago disc jockey, Jeffrey T. Mason, a Young and Restless devotee

Talk about a devoted soap fan. Not only has Jeffrey T. Mason been watching the Young and the Restless for 30 years, but he even took a ride to the real Genoa City, Wisconsin to visit the town that is the fictional setting where the show and its daily trials and tribulations take place. He even admits to checking out You Tube looking for behind the scenes videos of Young and Restless.

One must admit this is quite interesting coming from a man, but then again...Jeffrey T. Mason is just not your ordinary guy. He is one of Chicago's top disc jockeys that can be heard everyday from 10 AM to 2 PM on WJMK radio 104.3 (K-Hits) and...
