LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1, 2003 --The timing couldn't have been more perfect--Kristina Davis, the daughter of General Hospital's Alexis Davis and Sonny Corinthos, turned one on November 19, 2003. With the holidays just around the corner, fans of actors Nancy Lee Grahn and Maurice Benard, who play the little girl's parents, wanted to find a special way to mark the occasion.  Enter the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles.

Because the character of Kristina was born critically ill last year, fans wanted to support an organization that provides assistance to children and families who are facing a medical crisis.  The Ronald McDonald House was selected because of the work they do in providing a safe, affordable (sometimes free) place for families to stay while their children receive treatment at nearby hospitals.

Using online Target and Amazon "wish lists," and members began shopping November 1st for toys the House could give away at their annual holiday party and for household items the House needs for day-to-day survival, including sheets, towels and bathroom accessories.  By the shopping deadline of November 22, 2003, members had purchased $3,427.22 worth of merchandise and had donated another $572.78 in cash for a total of $4,000.

"I was thrilled to hear about and participate in the Ronald McDonald House fundraiser in honor of Baby Kristina's birthday," says Theresa Nichols, a member of both websites. "On General Hospital, Nancy Lee Grahn portrays Alexis Davis as a mother who will do anything to help her child feel safe and loved, even when a situation is out of her control, like when Kristina was born so ill.  In honor of that relationship, we want to help real life mothers and fathers do that for their children in their time of need.
"As a mother, I can appreciate what any family would be going through at a time like that.  If our gifts help to make a child or family feel more comfortable and bring a smile to their faces, the donation is well worth it.  I am honored to be among such a great group of people and to give to such a worthwhile cause."

The donated merchandise will be delivered to the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House on December 4th.
