Melody Thomas Scott celebrates a quarter century on Y&R

On February 27, 2004, Emmy-nominated actress Melody Thomas Scott celebrated 25 years on the Number One daytime drama, The Young and the Restless.

Scott garnered a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1999 and received a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in 2001 for her portrayal of Nikki Newman, the ultimate survivor.

Married multiple times on the show, Nikki Newman is currently wed to business tycoon Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Her character has matured from the girl from the wrong side of the tracks to the serial’s resourceful and resilient heroine.

After making her movie debut at age 8 as the young Tippi Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock’s Marnie, Scott, at age 13, co-starred with Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page in The Beguiled. Since then, she has co-starred in films including The Shootist with John Wayne, Dirty Harry, again with Clint Eastwood, Brian DePalma’s The Fury and Kirk Douglas’ Posse.

Scott began her show business career at age 3 under the tutelage of renowned coach Ethel Meglin, who helped launch the careers of Shirley Temple and Judy Garland. Scott studied singing, tap dancing, ballet and jazz and became one of the world famous Meglin Kiddies, performing at U.S.O. shows in Southern California, as she started booking commercials and guest spots on such series as Wagon Train, My Three Sons, Ironside and a recurring role on CBS’s The Waltons, among many others. Additional television credits include the mini-series Studs Lonigan and the television movies Moviola, Secrets and Paradise Virus. Scott has also appeared as herself on series such as The Nanny, Diagnosis Murder and The King of Queens, all on CBS. She attended the University of Southern California where she majored in music.

On stage, Scott appeared in the acclaimed Los Angeles productions of The Vagina Monologues and Love Letters.

Scott has been married since 1985 to Edward Scott, current supervising producer of Y&R. They have three daughters, Alexandra, Jennifer and Elizabeth. As a life-long fan of I Love Lucy, Scott also serves on the Founding Board of Directors for the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center, in Jamestown, N.Y., which is committed to preserving the enduring memory of the greatest comedienne of all time.
