So far we've seen the character of TC on Passions be the darling husband, dedicated daddy, and all-around swell guy. Well, not for long. According to Rodney Van Johnson, there are going to be fireworks and soon. Which is perfectly fine with him.
"TC is a very loving husband. He has a lovely wife and two beautiful daughters, but the way they have been setting him up, is that he is very hen pecked!" Van Johnson said with a laugh.
At first, it was hard for Van Johnson to get into portraying a hen-pecked husband. "I had to constantly ask the writers and producers questions about what is my relationship with my wife." He giggled and continued: "It's always 'Yeah, baby this. And yeah baby, that!' I am very hen pecked."
But as we all know, Tabitha is hell bent on exposing Eve's questionable past to TC. Could that be the trigger that gets TC's blood boiling? Van Johnson would not say for sure, but he is excited about the turns his character is about to make.
"There's a side of me that's very explosive, and I can't wait to show that other side of the character," said Van Johnson. "That's what really excites me about the writing. They put you in a situation where you are this meek person, and then they also put you in a situation where you go off! I am really looking forward to that."
As are the cyber fans. Van Johnson is well aware of the cyber buzz surrounding his character. "A lot of people online are saying that I need a collar to go with my leash because I am always saying yes to my wife," he said laughing. To all of you out there who have tired of TC's complacent behavior, hang on to your keyboards. "There are going to be some things that come out that are really exciting!" he said.
Not only are secrets from Eve's past about to play a part in TC's life, but what about that shed? "That's a whole other storyline," said Van Johnson. "We haven't even opened that up yet, so no one knows what's inside the shed."
Van Johnson worked his way to Passions via roles on Pensicola, Y&R and Port Charles. "I had done the gamut of soaps from the number one show, to the dead last show, and really wasn't looking for another soap," he said. "But Passions came along and it was a great 'in.' A great opportunity." He is delighted he made the decision to join the cast. "It's a lot of fun. Completely different from any other soap I've ever done, or any soap that's on the air. It's allowed me a lot of leeway as an actor to be funny and to be serious. You don't have that opportunity when you do a regular soap, so this is good. I couldn't ask for a better situation in working on a show."
He went on to say that "when you have a brand new show, you have to do something that's going to arouse the interest of the public. We do some things which arouse that interest. They may not be crazy about it, but it arouses their interest. Now people are saying it's such a weird show – with the little person, the witch, but still they can't stop watching. That's a back-handed compliment. Passions is very weird, quirky and stupid, but people are still watching."
A proponent of the internet, Van Johnson is currently developing his own website, which will launch soon. "I am waiting for my storyline to pick up," he said with a laugh. Looks like that's precisely what's about to happen. Stay tuned!
