DALLAS- Did you know that one out of two women will eventually die from heart disease or stroke, compared to 1 in 29 who will die of breast cancer? This February (American Heart Month), you can help stop heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women, through the American Heart Association's Power of Love campaign.
 
By purchasing select beauty products and gift items from Power of Love campaign supporters, you can help raise much-needed funds for heart disease and stroke research and education.  The Power of Love supporters are donating part of their February sales proceeds from select products to the American Heart Association. 
 
"I was shocked to learn that a woman's greatest health risk is heart disease and stroke. The keys to saving women's lives are research and education," says actress Jacklyn Zeman, who plays the role of Bobbie Spencer on the popular ABC daytime drama "General Hospital." 

Zeman, a longtime supporter of the American Heart Association and a campaign spokesperson, adds, "By simply purchasing beauty products and gift items for Valentine's Day from Power of Love supporters you can help raise more than $1 million to fund lifesaving research.  Money will also be used to educate women and their families about the risks of cardiovascular diseases and the lifestyle changes needed to prevent future health problems."

Leading American businesses will donate nearly $2 million dollars to the American Heart Association Power of Love fund-raising campaign for American Heart Month in February. The program is in its second year.

OPI Products, Inc., world's largest maker of professional nail care products, has created a special color to support the American Heart Association.  Each bottle of the new "Heart to Heart with OPI" sold will generate $3 for the American Heart Association.

Walgreens, a national retail pharmacy chain, will display paper hearts in stores in February.  Customers can purchase a heart for $1 with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the American Heart Association. (Last year, Walgreens raised $700,000 for the American Heart Association).

Nestlé® Carnation® Coffee-mate® will contribute up to $250,000 by donating a portion of proceeds from the sale of Coffee-mate coffee creamers during the month of February 2003.

Home Interiors and Gifts, one of the largest direct sellers of decorative home accessories, is donating $.25 from sales of an exclusive limited edition "Power of Love Candle in a Jar". Last year a similar promotion raised over $250,000 for the American Heart Association.

MasterCard International will be contributing up to $175,000 to the Power of Love campaign by matching donations made online or through the American Heart Association 800 number and charged to the donor's MasterCard card.

Swarovski, a leading maker of crystal jewelry, collectibles and accessories, is donating 10 percent of the purchase price from the Swarovski Power of Love Crystal Collection to the American Heart Association during February 2003. The Collection includes: a mini vase with roses retailing for $125 and four jewelry items-a necklace, earrings, bracelet and earrings retailing from $45 to $65.

Pantene, makers of hair care products, created Pantene "Condition for a Cause," a national campaign to help women get into their most beautiful condition. Ten percent from the sale of Pantene Conditioners in February, up to $100,000 will be donated to the American Heart Association.
