Emmy Award Winner and nominee for this year, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis, Y&R) knows how to have a great time.  I caught up with her at the Creative Craft Achievement Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night, May 15, 2004 and had the opportunity to not only chat with her about the upcoming Emmy’s, but to see her in action, displaying a warm and humorous camaraderie with the creative craft winners from her show’s production crew.  She was overjoyed and delighted at their win (Y&R won in several categories. Click here for all the winners) and wasn’t beyond getting a little goofy to show her support.

Nominated again this year for the fourth time, Stafford is as honored as the first time.  “It’s awesome to be nominated,” she shared.  “Just awesome, and I have to tell you, it’s more fun now.”  She went on to explain the three phases of dealing with being nominated.

“In the beginning you take it too seriously because it’s new,” she said.  “Then, you go through a period of saying ‘I don’t care.  It’s not important. Why should actors be in competition?  It’s art.  It’s esoteric. You can’t compete.’  But then you go – wait, that’s just angry, bitter actor. That’s not cool.  And then – (phase three) –  it’s just fun.  That’s where I am at now.”

Stafford does not have a speech prepared in the event of a win on Friday night.  “You go over the stuff in your mind,” she admitted. “There’s a list of peeps at work to thank -- or else you get fired,” she said with a chuckle.  “I don’t plan anything. That’s kind of cheese ball.”  She prefers to keep things more impromptu. “To sort of know where you’re going (with what you’re going to say),” but she doesn’t have anything written in stone.

For the awards ceremony, Stafford will be wearing jewels from Harry Winston.  She had not yet chosen the piece, but had an appointment at Harry Winston’s this week.  “I think it will only be earrings,” she shared. “The dress that I have has a lot going on, so I don’t think I will do anything more than just earrings.”

Decked in a skin-tight, floor length pink satin strapless formal for the LA Creative Craft Awards designed by Maria Bianco Nero, Stafford’s dress for the Emmy’s broadcast is gold and bronze.  “The designer of my dress for the Emmy’s is Eduardo Lucero,” she shared. Both Lucero and Nero are LA based designers.

And as if all the EMMY brouhaha wasn’t enough, Stafford will also be heading out to Las Vegas to be a presenter for the upcoming Country Music Association Awards.  “I am a huge fan of country music,” she said. “HUGE!  Oh, and I’ll be wearing Dolce and Cabanna for that show,” she added with a smile.
