America’s fastest growing daytime drama, NBC’s PASSIONS, won two Emmy® Awards one in the category of “Outstanding Original Song” and one in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series” at the 31st Annual Creative Arts Emmy Presentation on Saturday, May 15.

John Henry Kreitler, Composer/Lyricist and Pete Rich, Lyricist received television’s highest recognition in the category of “Outstanding Original Song,” “I Ain’t Sorry,” which originally aired on June 27, 2003 as part of PASSIONS: A Musical Extravaganza, a true Broadway-style revue that involved three cast members, six Broadway dancers and “Precious” the orangutan.

Ed O’Donnell and Paul F. Antonelli, Music Directors and John Henry Kreitler and Wesley B. Boatman, Jr., Composers received television’s highest recognition in the category of “Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series” for their continued work as Passions musical team. Ed, Paul, John and Wesley were all present at the ceremony and were presented their Emmy by Passions’ actresses Silvana Arias (Paloma Lopez-Fitzgerald) and Heidi Mueller (Kay Bennett).

“We are absolutely thrilled at John, Pete, Ed, Paul and Wesley’s Emmy win,” said Passions Executive Producer, Lisa de Cazotte.  “They are extraordinarily creative, talented and dedicated and their Emmys are well-deserved.  Their win brings our show’s total Emmys to three, so as you can imagine, the entire cast and crew are all very excited.”

The Creative Craft Emmy Awards were presented on Saturday, May 15, in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Highland. For all the winners, click here.

Since the series debut on July 5, 1999, the Emmy® Award winning PASSIONS’ quirky characters and classic love stories have generated interest and critical acclaim from the daytime community (PASSIONS has been nominated for 23 Emmy Awards, winning three, numerous Soap Opera Digest Awards and has won two IMAGEN Awards) as well as the press, TV Guide (Best Soap 1999 and 2000), Entertainment Weekly (“…comedy, drama, camp classic soap send up, “Passions” works.”), USA Today (“..has a gift for head-turning plots.”) and Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly both named it (a “Hot, Guilty Pleasure”).

Based on the rich history and mystery of the harbor community of Harmony, PASSIONS explores the lives, loves and losses of four core families: the Cranes, the Lopez-Fitzgeralds, the Bennetts and the Russells, each of whom have their own distinct and diverse challenges and desires.

PASSIONS, which will begin its sixth season on June 1, 2004, is the creation of celebrated daytime drama scribe James E. Reilly, who is considered by many industry insiders to be one of the most innovative and prolific writers of his time (TV Guide named him one of Television’s Most Valuable Players, February 2001).  PASSIONS is produced by NBC Studios in association with Outpost Farms Productions, Inc. and is taped in Studio City, CA.  Lisa de Cazotte is the executive producer.  PASSIONS premiered on NBC on July 5, 1999.
