Soapdom has the scoop on the 2004 Daytime Emmy nominees The National Television Academy announced the nominees for the 31st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Thursday, March 4. The nominations were presented by an all-star lineup of daytime’s leading actors and actresses including As the World Turns’ Tamera Tunie (Jessica Griffin) and Guiding Light’s Robert Newman (Joshua Lewis), along with All My Children's Cameron Mathison (Ryan Lavery), Days of our Lives Brian Datillo (Lucas) and One Life to Live's Heather Tom (Kelly).  This year’s ceremony will be held on Friday, May 21 at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall.
CBS leads all networks with 53 Daytime Emmy nominations: 16 for The Young and the Restless, 14 for As the World Turns, 12 for Guiding Light and 5 each for The Bold and the Beautiful and The Price Is Right.
The Lifetime Achievement Award this year will be presented to ten veteran actors who have devoted a major portion of their careers to Daytime Drama, including CBS’s Jeanne Cooper (Katherine, Y&R), EIleen Fulton (Lisa, ATWT), Don Hastings (Bob, ATWT), and Helen Wagner (Nancy, ATWT).
The Creative Craft Daytime Emmy Awards, primarily for the creative arts categories, will be presented at ceremonies on Saturday, May 15, in New York at the Marriott Marquis Hotel and in Los Angeles at the Kodak Theatre Ballroom.
The Daytime Emmys get under way with nominations for several actors who are no longer with their show. One Life to Live's Heather Tom (Kelly) earned a spot in the outstanding supporting actress category for her previous stint as Victoria Newman on The Young and the Restless. "The first thing that went through my mind was, 'Yeah,'" says the giddy actress. Tom, in her former soap persona, will compete against her current OLTL cast mates, Ilene Kristen (Roxie) and Kathy Brier (Marcie). "I'm glad for One Life to Live, and Y&R did very well, so I'll root for my peeps over there, too."
William deVry, who played murdered Michael Cambias on All My Children, and James Reynolds (ex-Abe), the first actor axed in the Days of Our Lives Salem serial killer story line, snagged noms for outstanding supporting actor. "Jim never had a dishonest moment on our show and always gave his all emotionally," says former colleague and Emmy nominee presenter Bryan Dattilo. "I'm so glad ... that he's got this nomination to validate his role on our show and his career." Dattilo, who presented the nominations for outstanding talk show host, fessed up to an on-screen snafu. "I forgot to announce The Ellen Degeneres Show as a nominee. She's not really going to like that," he states sheepishly. "I'm going to have to give her a personal apology."
Jennifer Finnigan, who recently exited her two-time award-winning role as Bridget Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, will compete for a third consecutive younger actress Emmy. Thorsten Kaye (ex-Ian) and Brian Presley (ex-Jack) from the defunct soap Port Charles will compete in the lead actor and younger actor categories, respectively. All My Children alum Michelle Trachtenberg (ex-Lily) will vie for outstanding performer in a children's series for her role in Discovery Kids' Truth or Scare.
