Lucci's Daytime & real family applauds her Emmy win

Like Mothers Like Daughters

The first person Susan Lucci called when she won the Emmy was her daughter, Liza Huber. Liza was in California and with the time difference, had not yet seen the Awards show.

Liza Huber (Gwen, PAS)(Liza was cast in a contract role on Passions, the new NBC daytime drama. She will play Gwen Hotchiss, an educated beauty in her early 20's. Gwen is a socialite from a wealthy family who has known the Cranes for years. Ethan Crane, 25, the extremely handsome heir apparent to the Crane fortune, is her long-standing boyfriend. The Cranes are the dominant family in town, yet given his wealth and upbringing, Ethan is surprisingly well-adjusted. Does that make him the perfect match for Gwen? Tune in to Passions to find out.)

"Liza is working very hard," Lucci told the journalists of her daughter's new-found soap career. After sharing the news with Liza, Susan immediately called her son, then her parents. "My mom likes my hair tonight," she confided. "I'm wearing it her favorite way!"

Susan Lucci (Erica, AMC)Picture This!

Sometimes the professionals are the biggest fans. Two female photographers, regulars covering the Daytime circuit in NY, asked Susan if she would pose for separate pictures of her and them! Susan was happy to oblige, even as she was being whisked from the room by her husband and an ABC PR executive. One of these star-struck photographers apologized to the others for the indulgence. "I had to," the photographer confessed. "She won!"

David Canary (Adam/Stuart, AMC)Wait Up

David Canary (Adam and Stuart Chandler, ) waited patiently just outside the press room for Susan Lucci to finish her interviews and photo sessions. Along with their significant others, they then boarded the world's slowest elevator together, beginning the trek to the ABC Daytime Emmy party.

Michael E. Knight (Tad, AMC)Knight's Not a Total Loss

Susan Lucci's fellow cast member, Michael E. Knight (Tad, AMC) who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor but lost to Stuart Damon (Alan Quartermaine, GH), should consider the evening far from disappointing. As the presenters announced his name and nomination for the category, the press room broke into applause. Aside from the astounding response to Susan Lucci's win, the only other time the journalists cheered was for Michael E. Knight. He may not have taken home the statue, but he's won the support and respect of the press.
