Bryan Datillo and Alison Sweeney (Lucas and Sami, Days of our Lives)As Days of our Lives prepares to celebrate it's 12,000th episode (Friday, January 11, 2013), the show and its fans just got some great news from the NBC network.

Days of our Lives has been renewed through September 2014, it was announced Wednesday by Jennifer Salke, president of NBC Entertainment.

In a statement she said...

"We are thrilled to announce that Days of our Lives is not going anywhere. It is NBC's longest-running drama series by far and is one of the most historic brands in television."

To say the least. It has been on the air 47 years!

"We commend Ken Corday and the entire creative team on continuing to keep the stories and characters fresh, exciting and relevant year after year," she said.

Steve Mosko, President of Sony Pictures Television and a long time supporter of the soap opera then chimed in...

"Days of our Lives has maintained a loyal and dedicated fan base for more than four decades and continues to reach a new generation of viewers.  We appreciate NBC's support over the years and, as the show celebrates this significant milestone, we are thrilled that the show will continue to be a part of the NBC family."

The pick up was alluded to this past Sunday at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) winter press tour in Pasadena when head of NBC, Bob Greenblatt, expressed confidence that Days of Our Lives would remain on the schedule.

"I think Days is going to stick around," he said. "I don't know that I'm at liberty to say that officially yet, but it's not going anywhere."

Days of our Lives recently kicked things up a few notches when it brought in some new writers, returned several veteran actors to their much beloved character roles, and embarked on their first same sex love story.

Soapdom could not be happier for Days and all the Days fans.  This announcement comes on the heels of Prospect Park confirming that the revitalized All My Children and One Live to Live are indeed a reality and should begin taping within the next few weeks.

This just goes to show you that there are only so many talk and lifestyle shows that the demographic can stomach.

Congrats to Days of our Lives!
