Joan van Ark to Y&R, Thom Christopher back on GL and more

Read with Caution - Contains Scoopage

Knots Landing alum Joan Van Ark will join the cast of The Young and the Restless in April. Van Ark is slated to play the role of Gloria Fisher, mother of Michael Baldwin and his young brother, Kevin Fisher.

It sees that Gloria arrives in Genoa City just in time for Kevin to confront the dysfunctional past that has made him the conflicted man he is today. Will she help or hinder the situation?  Only time will tell.

An avid jogger, Van Ark is best known to viewers for her 13-year stint on Knots Landing, where she played devoted mama Valene Ewing. This won't be the accomplished actress's first stint in daytime TV, however,  She starred as Janie Whitney on Days of Our Lives in 1970. Van Ark has already begun taping and will first air on-screen on April 6th.
In more CBS daytime casting news, Guiding Light brings two familiar faces back to Springfield this week. Thom Christopher returns as Colonel Dax on March 15. Dax delivers a very shocking picture to Edmund, who's been investigating the disappearance of the child Cassie presumably miscarried years earlier. Savvy viewers will remember Christopher's dual role of mobster Carlo Hesser and his mousy twin Mortimer Bern on One Life to Live.

Another World alum Orlagh Cassidy also returns as ADA Doris Wolfe, who takes over Jeffrey's role in Marah's murder case. In 1992, Wolfe starred as Sloane Wallace on AW. She's back on GL March 16.

Behind the scenes Days of our Lives: Production Designer

As Production Designer on Days of our Lives, Dan Olexiewicz knows how to construct a set. Yes! He is the man behind the famous Horton Town Square, one of the most popular sets used on the show and probably the largest. I mean who would not want to shop there with those unique stores? Or the new TBD Bar where everyone gathers to talk about their trials and tribulations, or plot their next move.

In layman's terms, Olexiewicz controls the designing of the sets. "Yes! I do (Laughing). I do the color scheme, I determine what kind of furniture will be used, and I collaborate with the set decorator giving me a feel of what needs to be done," he said. "I usually begin with a plan that is turned into a floor plan, and we go from there."
