Soap vet Jed Allan has what it takes to be the elder Quartermaine

Veteran Actor Jed Allan Assumes the Role of Family Patriarch Edward Quartermaine

Right on the heels of John Ingle's hasty GH departure, Emmy nominated Jed Allan will assume the role of Edward Quartermaine on General Hospital.

General Hospital Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps said, “Jed Allan’s acting experience will serve him well as he takes over the role that the audience loves to hate. The cast and crew are very happy he is joining our family as we continue the always unpredictable storylines from the Quartermaine family.”

“I am very honored to be brought on board to one of television’s most honored dramas to play Edward Quartermaine,” commented Jed Allan.  “A complex role like this one doesn’t come around often and I look forward to diving right in.”

Born and bred in New York City, Allan’s most recent role was that of Ed Grant on the critically-acclaimed ABC daytime drama “Port Charles.”  In addition, he has been seen in CBS’ hit series “CSI: Miami” and HBO’s award-winning drama “Six Feet Under,” as well as spending 10 years on NBC’s “Days of our Lives” and 7 years on “Santa Barbara.”  Besides his Emmy nominations, he has also won awards for “Best Actor” from “Daytime T.V. Magazine” and “Soap Opera Digest.” In his spare time, he likes to play music on the piano and banjo, travel, golf and sail.

Allan takes over in the role after John Ingle, who played Edward Quartermaine for the past ten years, left GH for the role of Mickey Horton on Days of our Lives after getting the run around from General Hospital. Allan's first air date will be March 1st, which coincidentally is also his birthday.

General Hospital, the innovative, award-winning drama series, celebrated 40 years of broadcasting on April 1, 2003, and is the longest-running dramatic serial on the ABC Television Network.  “General Hospital” consistently rates as the No. 1-ranked Daytime program with Women 18-49. General Hospital” was created by Frank and Doris Hursley. Jill Farren Phelps is the executive producer. Carol Scott, Mary O'Leary and Mercer Barrows are producers. “General Hospital” airs Monday-Friday (3:00-4:00 p.m., ET, 2:00-3:00 p.m., PT) on the ABC Television Network.
