Who's in who's out this week. Big changes a foot

AMC Pink Slips Two

It's the end of the line for All My Children's Marc Menard and Dax Griffin. Both actors have been let go from the show.  An ABC rep confirms that Griffin's exit is storyline dictated.

Menard has seen his character, a chemist at Enchantment, pushed to the back burner for months. Upon his initial appearance in Pine Valley, Boyd quickly befriended his boss' daughters -- Bianca became an almost little sister figure for Boyd and Kendall became one of the objects of his interest. After the initial flirting was done with Kendall, Boyd was relegated to Myrtle's card partner.

Prior to joining All My Children, Menard was a male model. AMC's casting department had caught flack from fans for hiring beauty instead of experience, and Menard is just one of its recent cast members to have a background in modeling.  Menard's arrival in Pine Valley was bookended by the arrival of several other characters. Two of those characters, Michael Cammbias and Henry Chin, have also been trimmed from the cast.

As has Dax Griffin. Griffin snagged a recurring role as Jackson's feisty lawyer Justin McCoy in August 2003. Though the loss of two men doesn't bode well for AMC's female-heavy cast (who all seem to be after Tad anyway!), sources say that the show may bolster its male quotient with a recast of Bobby Warner, last seen in Pine Valley in 1997.

Ghostly Visions on DOOL

Days of Our Lives is bringing some recently axed vets back to the canvas to appear as heavenly beings this week. In their ghostly forms, they'll deliver Valentine's wishes to their loved ones.

"There's a dance sequence with three different couples that should be very effective," says Josh Taylor, who resurrects Roman. "They wrote a really nice scene for Lauren [Koslow (Kate)] and me. I think it will be a nice show."

Returning to the set was a good, if not strange, experience for the former vet. "Everybody made me feel they were as glad to see me as I was to see them," he says. "The biggest difference is going down to your old dressing room, which you've totally cleaned out."

Also appearing is Suzanne Rogers (Maggie), who has already been seen in flashbacks with interim Mickey Richard Voigts. Days hints this won't be the last time we'll see some of the show's recently departed faves back on the scene. "Although deceased, those who have passed away will always have a spiritual presence in Salem," a spokesperson teases.

Mac's Back at Y&R

There was a good reason that Ashley Bashioum (ex-Mackenzie Browning) did not land the part of Marina on CBS's Guiding Light. Beginning next month, Bashioum reprises the role of Y&R's Mac.

Bashioum originated the role of Mackenzie in 1999, but left The Young and the Restless in February 2002 to focus on college and a career in medicine. Earlier this year, Bashioum auditioned for the role of Marina Cooper on Guiding Light.

Upon Bashioum's exit, Y&R execs recast the role of Mackenzie with soap newcomer Kelly Kruger. Kruger, however, didn't catch on with fans, who were still wildly enamored by Bashioum. About a year after assuming the role, Kruger was released from the show.  "Ashley will first appear in mid-March," says a show spokesperson. An exact first airdate was not available.

Bashioum's return has already led to rampant speculation that Emmy winner David Tom (ex-Billy Abbott) might also be returning to the show as Bashioum's on-screen love interest. However, a show spokesperson declined to comment on the rumors of Tom's - or at least Billy's - return.
