Wow! The Sophie murder case was wrapped up literally in one hour. I couldn’t believe it, and that was certainly a first for this soaps. Monday, with some quick camera action and cutting of time, the entire murder and incident came to a head and end. I’m grateful this wasn’t a multi-month mystery that gets out of hand with the number of suspects, and clues are doled out to viewers at the rate of one a week; but watching the entire plot and resolution unfold in one hour was too much like primetime.
How about a little in between? Give us enough mystery to keep us hanging on like the true nature of a soap opera, but don’t let it drag on for months to the point we practically forget the initial storyline.
I didn’t care for the details of the crime that ATWT decided to move forward with. I knew Cole was a major player in the murder, but I would have liked to have seen maybe a parentage connection between Dr. Rick Decker and Cole or Sophie. Either one would have been entertaining for a future storyline outside of the murder.
I don’t think and hope we have seen the last of Rick Decker. He may be off screen for now but I am left to wonder if he is the one poisoning Oakdale, beginning with Allison’s poisonous bracelet.
Now that Meg and Paul are married, and Sophie is out of their hair, and no one is looking at hard time for a crime they did or did not commit; can we please have a break from these two. I feel ATWT has done nothing, but shove unwanted and unentertaining storylines with these two in our faces for three years now.
I have always been a huge Paul Ryan fan and love his portrayer, but I have had enough of Paul for now. If the show would give him different storylines I would be happy to see him everyday, but for years literally it seems they give Paul one script they work through then just flip it back to the front and start over again.
Paul and Meg need to go off and live happily outside of Oakdale for at least six months. Regroup as characters and a couple. I’m hoping they find they really don’t love each other, because I can’t stand Meg. I personally think it is time for James Steinbeck to return to town or someone have a need to go off looking for him.
Maybe Margo could get so desperate to rid her son of Emily she will turn to the dastardly James for help. What a fun storyline that would be. Tom and Margo could go off somewhere exotic in search of James…. An adventure like the days of their search for Mr. Big the midget villain. The brief history of Tom and Margo a couple weeks ago celebrating their anniversary was great viewing for a life long fan such as myself and many others I know who also appreciated the mention and reference of older characters.
Moving on, the Snyder’s’. What can I really say about them. There is a lot, and I have no doubts as to why Parker and Liberty found themselves doing the mattress mambo at such a young age. Parker I am a little surprised in, but Liberty not so much. As a matter of fact we could see it coming a mile away. I hope this isn’t ATWT’s way of competing with a very popular teen pregnancy storyline on another network’s soap.
I really hate what Carly is going through. She wasn’t the only one, and never is, in situations like this, but she always gets the blame, the total blame.
When the truth first came out week before, Holden was so into Carly and loved her. He said he wanted to end his marriage for her. Now he is promising Lily to fix their marriage. With signals like that no wonder Carly goes around making mistakes. It must run in the genes of Snyder men because Jack and Brad are the same way.
They say one thing, do another, and expect something completely different from their women. I feel sorry for the women who get caught up in the Snyder men’s lives and emotions.
As much as I dislike Lily (now that the portrayer has changed) I can understand where she is coming from, and once moving past her hurt she should be able to identify with Carly. I couldn’t believe it when Lily had the nerve to throw Simon in Carly’s face. My jaw dropped. Wasn’t it Lily who first had an affair with Simon, ending her marriage in hopes of love with Simon? And then Damien and Dusty and I know I am missing someone else along the way. I wish Carly had reminded Lily that she was the first Oakdale damsel to be bedded and wooed by Simon.
Moving forward from here, I just want Holden to decide and then make it work with whoever he chooses, though my vote is for Carly. I’m so past the awkward looks and sighs of guilt from everyone associated with the Snyder’s. This is a family that needs some tragedy to snap them out of their self absorbed personas and give them something else to worry about and viewers more to watch than wife/girlfriend swapping.
