Jack is forced to close the investigation into Paolo's death after all the evidence turns up missing. Then, Palmer pays a visit to Vanessa as she begins her first day of work at the Community Center.

On the other side of town, Dixie and Liza have a heart to heart conversation, and Dixie picks up on Liza's true feelings for Adam. Liza then begs Dixie to please keep it a secret from Tad. Meanwhile, an indifferent Leo learns that Vanessa will not be charge with Paolo's murder. Then, Dixie blasts into Liza for asking her to keep such a secret from Tad, but later feels guilty and decides to keep Liza's confidence. She agrees not to say anything to her husband. Meantime, Joe presents Gillian with a letter from Jake.
